My work at The Bethesda Group taught me the art of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) from experts in Maryland and North Carolina. Prior to this, I worked at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center’s Addiction Treatment Clinic for 6 years. The vast majority of clients I worked with there were suffering from co-occurring trauma-based and substance use disorders. I created and led several groups using mindfulness meditation, was the clinic liaison to the psychiatric inpatient clinic, and taught psychiatry residents and psychiatric nurse trainees about substance use treatment in military settings.
I practiced in Philadelphia and grew specializations in working with underrepresented minorities: women and LGBTQIA+ clients. I served on the board of Change Philly Today, working to secure housing, job training, and educational opportunities for LGBTQIA+ youth. I sought training at Harvard’s Positive Psychotherapy summit, where my natural focus on bringing client’s joy into the therapy experience flourished. Philadelphia is also where I began my yoga practice at Wake Up Yoga and became a yoga teacher.
After receiving my MSW, I worked at Dawn Farm, providing teens and their families with substance use treatment through the Washtenaw County Juvenile Justice System. This included residential, IOP, and outpatient levels of care, as well as a team of over 30 professionals in probation, schools, the juvenile and adult court systems. I began a formal practice of Buddhist meditation in 2008 at the Zen Buddhist Temple in Ann Arbor, which I continue to incorporate into my psychotherapy practice.
I received my MSW in 2006 from Wayne State University in Detroit, MI, with a focus on family systems theory as applied to individual therapy. At Oberlin College, I studied Modern Central European History from the European perspective (or as I like to call it, “World War II, Why, and What After). My focus was geared towards understanding how a society could develop such a troubling set of leaders and horrific aggressions. My work fiercely supports and cheerleads underserved populations today, with my ultimate desire of preventing history from repeating itself.
When not working, I ride my motorcycle, cook and eat all the different cuisine I can find, lift weights, enjoy time with family and friends, and hang with my rescued tuxedo cats, Freddie Purrcury (L) & Boi George (R), and pups Bear (front) & Thelma.
